Dogs take way more energy Really matters how attentive of an owner you are too. I had to train my dog to be good, so I could take him places, so I would feel good about myself and worthy of owning a dog. Now when I go to the cabin I can have him with no leash but I still have to be attentive cause he'll take any chance to wonder off. It weighs down my time there but he deserves more than just sitting at home alone while I enjoy nature without him.
