- PS3 $599 US Dollars. You'll want to get a second job to have one

Jesus Christ I know this is a meme but I really wish people understood that when the PS3 came out with a built-in Blu Ray player that stand-alone Blu Ray players were still going for $1000+ by themselves.

Sounds like overpriced blu rays imo

No you have no idea what you're talking about.

The PS3 was released November 2006 and the pricing was announced at E3 2006.

CES 2006 (January 2006) was the coming-out party for Blu-ray and Blu-ray players started to be released en masse later that year https://www.blu-ray.com/ces2006/

Samsung displayed their upcoming BD player (BD-P1000), which supports 1080p output via HDMI as well as upconversion of DVDs to 1080i/1080p. The player which is likely to be the first Blu-ray player on the market is scheduled for US release in April 2006 and will retail for about $1,000.

LG displayed their BD player (BD199), which supports 1080p output via HDMI and upconversion of DVDs to 1080i/1080p. The player is scheduled for US release in Q2 2006 and will retail for less than $1,000.
(The BD199 never ended up being released)

Like essentially when the PS3 was released it was the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market.
