Imagine if Harry Potter, Superman or Luke Skywalker was player by a black actor?

If they acted well and didn't outright change the story to specifically make their race the focal point of the story, who the fuck cares.

People would care.

Only racist people

Did you miss the drama over Dante's hair color in DmC? Or Tifa's cleavage? It's stupid to get riled up over superficial changes but it happens from time to time because nerds/gamers tend to be uncomfortable with change, especially to characters that they grew up with. Skin color would not be a superficial change since it is very prominent, but it also affects accent and speech pattern.

And Harry Potter, Superman and Luke Skywalker are far more popular, more entrenched into pop culture and more iconic, by several orders of magnitude than Dante and Tifa.

Thinking only racists would care if characters they grew up with (and are role models to them) are changed just tells me your views are so tinted by identity politics, or you are so eager to win a argument, that you give up on trying to infer the thoughts of others, of trying to understand them.

I don't give a crap about Ariel, mainly because I don't care about watching a remake of a Disney cartoon, but I won't pretend that this isn't important to others in a way that has nothing to do with bigotry.
