We should make a clear distinction between citizen and civilian.
4 years of public service should be a requirement for citizenship. Otherwise you don't vote and you don't run for office.
What would qualify as public service?
Its a pretty wide range, but ill name a few
Military Police Fire Judiciary (clerical work etc.) Public education Sanitation
So you want immigrants to come in and have to work government jobs for four years, without be able to vote, but still pay taxes, even though you have a huge amount of people claiming they are stealing jobs already?
Uh, what? Who mentioned immigrants? I'm saying I want this rule for everybody, including the native born population.
You're not paying taxes so you can vote. Youre paying them to use and maintain public services. Don't Like it? Take a fucking public service job or gtfo. Prove to us that you have the nations interest at heart and I'm happy for you to have a say in it.
The crux of this idea is that youre delaying the career and continued education of citizens just so they can vote. They probably wont be able to vote until theyre 21/22, assuming they start a public service position at age 18. Great, now they can vote.
Now, they have to make a decision of either staying in their public service position which they will likely have to do as they will be supporting themselves/family and will have bills to pay so they will probably not want to leave this paying job to go to college for 4/8 years. Maybe they part-timed working and school. In any case, why would they leave their paying job to do something else?
Now you have possible lifers in a public service job that they started solely because they wanted to vote and theyre not passionate about, but are just doing because it pays the bills. What about all the other positions that are needed, like retail, food service, etc? Sucks to be them, because apparently, your job doesnt qualify as serving the public so you dont get to vote.

what i want is for the citizen population of my country to prove their dedication to it before they are given a voice in it. if your interest is only in yourself then by all means, take care of yourself. if your interest is in your country then by all means, take care of your country.
