China may want to assert more control, but they're not dumb enough to just send in the army. The whole reason they stacked the last HK elections with loyalists and are trying to pass these bills is so they can just quietly vanish away the more vocal dissidents over time until the government is fully able to approve measures to merge with the mainland. What will likely happen is Winnie the Pooh will start to push a lot harder on the government to change the laws because he can't stand criticism, especially in a region I'm willing to bet he believes is already "his" to control. --- "History Is Much Like An Endless Waltz.
