Trophy hunting, or the even nerdier approach of boosting for trophies.

Boosting for achievements is something most gamers did back in the hayday of Xbox Live.

Largely because people were setting out to 100% their games but there were some achievements that were way too situational and rather than waiting around for it to happen they took it into their own hands. Or some were just downright impossible. Developers all have different philosophies for what achievements should be, especially during the early days, so the task of 100%ing sometimes requires boosting.

Achievements were big around 2006-2008 because most games weren't doing all those addictive in-game progression systems yet.

I still think there should be a division between offline and online.. I'm only mildly entertained by trophies. If I like a game enough I'm go for them. But if there is online trophies I dont even bother
