German heritage is not offensive, neither is descending from people who were enslaved


People obviously automatically assume it's Nazi or something to do with them the MOMENT you say "my family came from Germany." And they get offended.

It's not offensive to celebrate your ancestors were slaves. But then again, why celebrate it? It's perpetuating the mindset of us vs them. It doesn't help repair the schism that divides people.

People should celebrate their degree(s). Not drag the past around to as part of the celebration.
