When Echidna finally returns, it leads her to attack the other Angels, but Griffith uses her as a pawn in his scheme by telling her that he would bring Griffith to him the dead, which she does, but it only works because the real Griffith was already there. She was forced to watch Guts, whom she was told was dead, die.
While Echidna is holding off the Angels, Griffith says to himself "The only hope left here is us... You mustn't make me look dumb when I say these things. I know now, I will become your greatest enemy." Then, he flies away.
The Guts Squadron's return Edit
When the other Angels attacked and killed them, Griffith said to Casca, "Look at me! If I fail then all of our hope - our lives, our livelihood - is destroyed. I know you must not look down upon me, Casca. But after you give up your blade, you are the only person left that I can trust."
He said this before being attacked by Vandalieu.
In the story arc "Bones and Steel", in Chapter 20 Casca and the others escape from the Guts Squadron, although Casca is a little injured, but has no idea how the final mission
