I have never just stopped showing up to a job. If I quit (except for one time), I always put in my two weeks notice. The exception was a "quit or be fired moment" so I quit on the spot.

Story?

Nothing too exciting. Incompetent management had fallen in love with this one girl who was major ass kisser who hated me and another coworker. So they cut our hours to give them to her (because it totally makes sense to pay someone for 60 hours and 20 hours of overtime instead of two people 30 hours). They kept looking for a way to fire us because their pet wanted us gone and they found it

The good coworker posted on Facebook that one of our residents was transferred to a new facility. I said "really?" She did a HIPAA violation. Mine was guilt by association. Called us in the next day, one by one, to talk to us. Fired her on the spot. Gave me the option. Fired her sister just because she was related. She was not even in the conversation, bosses just didn't like her.

She sued and won for wrongful termination.
