The PS1 wasn't too bad for multiplayer with fighters, and the best MP game of the gen, Hogs of War! The racers and shooters were alright, but the N64 obviously wins with those.
I just remembered Syphon Filter 2's MP. That was lolworthy. I think Tenchu 2 had MP as well (it was probably crap also; I don't really remember much about it).
Did Time Crisis have co-op? Or Die Hard Trilogy (lightgun part), or Point Blank? I'm sure I played one or more of those in co-op.
Then there was Vigilante 8 of course.
Yeah, the N64 was more suited to MP, but we PS1 owners didn't miss out.
