People probably wanted a marketplace where you could weigh your options when buying a game. I don't think anyone wanted a single entity paying off publishers to deny titles to other storefronts. That's the sort of shit that goes on in the console market. More like people wanted another storefront that offered cheaper discounts and still used Steam as a launcher. Which is silly. I cant think of a way any company can remain competitive with Steam in the PC market without doing shit like Epic has been doing.
