And Ryetoast, if you're just recording through your laptop mic, then you need to do a couple test takes. Record a few seconds of yourself singing at full volume, then listen to it. If it sounds distorted and garbled, you need to turn down the volume on your laptop mic (sound settings -> input -> device properties -> levels).
