protein comes from plants. the protein in your beef is actually from the plants the cows ate. in a modern, developed country you only need meat because you're used to it or like it or the convenience of it. it's not a necessity anymore, so that's where the question of morality comes in. I'd never call it immoral to eat meat if you're deserted on some island and have no other choice

Its also worthy noting that eating meat is not necessarily the same as eating factory farmed meat.
