"The combat sucks because I can set things up to make the most braindead solution effective." Yeah, you have to set it up and get the right materia. Which requires effort in the first place. It's like those people who said Xenoblade 2's combat sucks because "you can just not do anything at all and have auto-attack do the work" when you need an end-game build to do something like that.
