We had lockdown drills when I was in school and this was mid to late 90s stuff..wtf happened to the next generation to make them so weak?

There's been a lot more shootings since your generation. It's a much more present threat in the minds of modern kids. It's happened to kindergartners. A lot of these drills are also badly designed, to the point where people don't know it's a drill and someone actually runs through the school making loud, explosion style noises to make it "real".

Ah, that last bit explains it. During our drills, it was lights out, under the desk. As for the rest, at best it was admin walking the hall. So extremes as described would have definitely shaken a few.

Still weird how it's changed that much in just 10-15 years.
