The way the finale played out indicated that Robin was the true love of his life who he never ever got over and the whole mother thing was a decade-long gotcha. Even his daughter is like this story is obviously about Robin. I do believe the writers intended the message to be that the mother was his true love, his great love story, but that years later, with his kids blessing, life moves on and he and Robin found happiness together after all. Scenes from past seasons like the one where he envisions going to the mothers apartment before he met her and saying what hed give for just one more day that stuff bears out that the DESIRED takeaway was how she was always first. Its almost like he was asking HER permission to move on too. Hes envisioning that conversation in the midst of trying to finally move on. Thats powerful stuff. They really almost had a great bold ending but boy did they botch the landing. I shouldnt have to point out scenes previous seasons to decipher their actual intentions. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
