Yeah, they will, for a time. Then they'll lose a lot of money, investors will lose trust, and those publishers will suffer. This kind of thing happened plenty of times in the past and it never works out well - there are countless dead MMORPGs that can't even be played anymore, made by greedy companies that saw the kind of money World of Warcraft was bringing in and tried to do their own. And then the PS3 & 360 generation has a glut of bland military shooters, many of which struggled to break even, to capitalize on the popularity of Call of Duty.

The thing is, the kind of people who would be attracted to Fortnite already have Fortnite. Any kind of knockoff at this point won't draw Fortnite fans away from their game and onto yours, considering Fortnite's already reached that crazy level of popularity where it's the quintessential battle royale game. Nothing's going to dethrone it at this point, and it's outright foolish to make a game like Fortnite now.
