When people say: "we should hold off exploring space until we fix the major problems here on Earth", it always comes off to me as "I'll hold off that visit to the doctor when I don't have so much work to do."

Human numbers are exponentially increasing, resources are dwindling and the environment isn't getting any better either. And that's just some of the pressing matters here on Earth. There are tons of other risks, both natural and human-caused that could have disasterous effects on humanity.

Expanding outward, searching for new resources andsetting up new colonies is the sensible thing to do, as this:
- expands the amount of resources and spurs scientific, technological and business developments (hopefully philosophical ones too).
- creates a back-up of human existence if something disasterous were to happen to humans on Earth.
- Let's be honest; exploring discovering new things out there is interesting and exciting in itself. It's a new big unknown.
I believe one of of the reasons humanity is so divided these days is due to a lack of a bigger goal to unify people, pointing them at a common goal. Colonization of Mars and space exploration in general can be such a goal (that doesn't involve world war).

So yeah, I'm pretty excited about space exploration

One time, CE triggered me so hard with their objectively wrong opinions that I accidentally punched myself in the balls.
