I dont know why nerds refuse to accept this. Its in the movie. Anytime Thanos leaves an area then reality resets itself. The first time that doesnt happen (the snap) then the glove almost blows itself apart. And that was just destroying something. Arguably creating anything (new reality, more resources) would have blown Thanos hand off and probably failed. But half of all life succeded.
