The Taliban is going to take over the country again. Afghanistan is such a fucked country.
We need to stop nation building. Afghanistan isn't our problem.
We said the same thing in the 80s after the Soviets left Afghanistan and we cut support to Afghanistan, the country ended up becoming a safe haven for Bin Laden and his ilk. We all know how that turned out on 9/11.
The problem is what is the permanent solution? Left to their own devices, countries in that region have historically turned to either brutal dictatorships, toothless governments that can't control the countryside, or inhumane theocracies to govern. Training the local armed forces was supposed to be a fix but that clearly didn't work, and we can't just occupy them forever.
As fucked up as it sounds, continued financial support for the ANA with the occasional airstrike should they need it. At the very least, we MUST make sure that Afghanistan doesn't become a haven for international terrorists again. ---
