Never, never will. One of my first patients as an intern on a neurological disease unit in 1976 had contracted Guillain Barre Syndrome (progressive muscle weakness leading to paralysis) from the flu shot. For me, it's just not worth the risk.

Baby mommas grandfather had the same thing happen to him. Complete paralysis from the neck down for several months. Dude was completely healthy before. He's back to good health now and got a reallllly nice settlement, but fuck all of that.

The chance of that happening is miniscule. Your car is more likely to spontaneously go up in flames, but you still drive, don't you?

The worst year for GuillainBarr was 1976, in which there were 8.8 cases per million vaccinations (0.00088%). The vaccines have become much safer since then. A large study in China found only 11 cases out of 100 million doses, or 0.000011%.

But here's the kicker, influenza itself can cause GuillainBarr. So if you don't get the vaccine and you get the flu, you could still come down with GuillainBarr! That's if you don't die first. The odds of dying from the flu can be as high as 1 in 10,000, or 0.01%.

0.01% chance of dying or 0.000011% chance of developing GuillainBarr? I'll take my chances with the vaccine, thank you.

Makes sense isn't a vaccine typically a weakened or dead version of the virus? Or contain it at least.
