I got my license when last year (28 now) because my job eventually became too inconvenient to travel to without it.

Until then, the main reason I never got my license was likely due to my father. He has this conflicting nature where on the one hand he was so protective that I never learned to ride a bike, but super critical and aggressive behind the wheel (which would come out when he tried to teach me from the passenger's seat).

But in Japan (I'm from America, btw), they have driving schools that people are expected to go to, and that environment was much better for me. Ungodly expensive though. But I also got a good deal for a car at auction, so overall it could have been much worse for my wallet.
