The Divine Beast were basically small dungeons. And the shrines were basically Dungeon Rooms...

That's the problem. Small dungeons, and a bunch of dungeon rooms spread out across the whole map.

I'm sure just about everyone would have been happier with fully realized dungeons in place of all that shrine nonsense. The "ancient tech" aesthetic got pretty boring after a while. And it was especially grating when the DLC dungeon looked the same.

Mild alterations to the color scheme don't count, either.

Exactly. One of the best parts of a Zelda game was finding a new area and exploring a new theme. Dungeons were always thematic. They had different atmospheres, different styles. Every puzzle room in BotW felt like a single room from one large dungeon. No particular variation in aesthetic. No different atmosphere.

anyone who says BotW is mediocre shouldn't be taken seriously anywhere, it won like a million game awards

That means nothing. Game awards and most professional reviews in general are a complete joke. Gamespot will give any game at least 7/10 as long as it has a functioning start button. And the game that wins GoTY on any big site is almost always the most popular AAA game of the year, not a game that was actually innovative or interesting.
