If it's such a small amount, why doesn't she just pay it? Especially if she's already been paying it down for two years, in which case it must be next to nothing by now.

Records of hospital visit and services performed.

How it works though is the hospital doesn't give them that as it is not legal for the hospital to give them that. Medical records are confidential.

They sell a debt and that is all. Basically the debt collector knows most people are too scared to challenge them and know they owe something, so they wind up paying.

The hospital sells it because that means they get money quicker.

All the debt collector gets is your name and address and that you owe some money. Nothing more.

So in court you can ask for proof of that amount they claim you owe. I mean, that is reasonable to ask someone.

You say I owe you 2000. What for? I want it itemized.

The debt collector can't do that and thus how can the court rule you do owe them that?
