I don't think any of you are actually reading the topic post. Being a big Nintendo release is not the same as being a big release. Smash 64 was just another N64 game, Melee was a big Gamecube game, but it wasn't the crazy must play hype amongst casuals that Ultimate has

It's been like this since Melee. The games have always sold a shit ton of copies, they're literally system sellers. People love playing Smash, it's one of the ideal games to throw on when hanging out with people
