It was partly so people who ran local places could call me for a Christmas job, but also because it felt so strange, having gone a couple of years without a phone, and not ever having owned a smart phone. These days, if you don't have a smart phone, you're not considered a real person. I might still be happy about buying it. I might get several years' use out of it, and really learn how to make the most of it.
