How does this happen? Did no doctor notice anything before the crisis?

I cut through a big portion of my finger on a job(cut myself from the nail down toward the knuckle in the skin-flapping-off kind of way) and just bandaged the hell out of it.
Wound up going to hospital a couple days later because it'd still bleed kinda bad at times. They told me to bandage it and keep it clean, looked at it for about all of 15 seconds, and billed me 600 dollars because they fucked up putting my insurance info in.
Healthcare in america is a fucking nightmare even for simple shit.
I did that at work a few months ago too, it was still pouring blood an hour and a half later so I went to urgent care and they put a pressure bandage on that I had to wear for 72 hours. I cut a chunk of skin right off at the base of my nail so they couldn't even stitch anything ---
