You might have an engineering degree but what you're actually doing is more suitable for CAD operators who took two year technical programs at a community college.

Yeah but I make an engineer's salary.

It's your life dude - if you want to spend it doing well paid monkey work that's as satisfying as flipping burgers, all the power to you.

There's lots of opportunities out there for engineers to do interesting work. You're going to have to apply yourself though and get yourself out of your half-comatose state you are currently drifting through life in however. Every year that goes by where you're drawing rectangles is going to make it harder to get out of the rut.

LOOOOOOOL

I've been doing everything from stupid web apps, to mobile apps, to embedded development, to machine learning, to cloud services, and more. My experience runs all over the place. While there are bursts of fun and creativity it always ultimately results in boredom. It's inherent in any job. You may be able to escape by building your own business, but then you're just dealing with another set of clients and now you've taken on a shit-ton of risks.

The only real solution is to retire so you can work on whatever you feel like working on and abandon projects (temporarily or otherwise) you don't feel like working on anymore. No deadlines, no shitty projects, and no clients with sometimes really stupid requirements. The dream job is a myth.
