For the cursing in his recent vids, James frequently said that he's more obligated to include those kinds of jokes and words because he's received constant criticism about it in the past for mellowing out whenever he would release an episode where he doesn't go on a few seconds without poopy jokes.

That sounds like James making an excuse for his weak comedy. I've seen people complain about the nerd not being angry, but not explicitly about a lack of poop jokes. You can be angry without making a bunch of word salads about feces

Have you seen his Earthbound review or his Seaman review? That was some of his most genuine content. Especially Earthbound because he really enjoyed the game but was still able to get across criticisms due to it being a game of its era.

Seaman was over three years ago. Earthbound was fine but he rarely reviews games like that. Most of his recent reviews seem to just be mediocre obscure games that nobody (especially James) cares about
