Can anyone explain why Mario never boosted like this off the Galaxy games?

Were you here in 2005?

In 2005 there was a huge Nintendo boost.

The one who benefitted the most from it was Mario, who went from losing to Crono to unquestionably being the #4 character in the contest.

Look at how every piece of Nintendo has looked this year.

It's another huge Nintendo boost, and guess who is benefiting the most from it again?

As Ive said before, I dont think its a boost.

I think everything else just keeps dropping. These other franchises dont keep getting new great games like Nintendo and dont have quite the same nostalgia as the overall Nintendo brand is still strong.

If everything keeps dropping and Nintendo stays stable, that's basically a boost?

I guess technically not if you base things on current Link?

Well its a question of predicting the future.

Firstly these waifus seem to do pretty well. That kind of goes against the Nintendo boosting narrative.

Secondly its a question of franchise revival.

Lets say by some miracle the FF7 remake is absolutely beloved and a massive hit (never going to happen). This would lead to those guys gaining in strength, without Nintendo dropping. Youd expect Seph to beat Snake again.

Whereas if there was a new MGS game with Snake and it was a massive beloved hit, youd expect him to beat Zelda even if she doesnt drop.

So when comparing across years, it very much makes a difference if its a Nintendo boost or everything else drop, even though within a single contest its functionally the same.
