Peterson says that Hitler amplified the dark desires of the mob. That doesn't sound like an apology to me. Heaven forbid anyone try to understand the rise of Nazism with any semblance of nuance though. Of course they were evil bastards but that doesn't suffice as a historical explanation.

You can do the same with Sadam Hussein, Bin Laden, ISIS e.t.c\

Everyone is a hero from at least one perspectiive

Perfect example. No one is implying Hitler did "right" or "was justified" but the dimensionality of his actions is more than just "THE JEWS". The damage World War I did to their society was HUGE and a lot of his political upsurge was primarily due to his promise to restore Germany to pre-WW1 conditions.

His antisemitic rhetoric was embedded in that agenda, sure, and his people bought it pretty readily but you have to realize how dire and desperate things were for their people in those years between WW1 and WW2. They were looking for ANYWHERE to place the blame on their crumbling society.

I don't know if JP defended Nazism in the video, but going of from what i have read on this topic. I think his actions are misguided and almost conspiratorial. For e.g ISIS as many internet users state, are the product of the US destabilising their nation, fuelling war through them, something they in turn used in retaliation against the West, as far as i know they feel they are being punished for the actions of others, as such their terrorism activities in the West is reflective of the destruction the US is causing on innocent civilians.

Again contextualised, anything can be 'reasoned' with. But I disagree with ISIS, just like I disagree with Nazism and to try and contextualise it in any from other than a meaningless internet debate, is a cause of concern and it's as if you're trying to spin conspiracies. As the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. At the end of the day, Nazi's killed so many innocent people, as do ISIS, only a madman would try to reason with their actions. Because the Germans were being punished for WW1, something that the innocent people were unfortunately victim to and innocent people in the middle-east are dying, because terrorists are using them as shields, using child and woman soldiers e.t.c A wrong deed, doesn't justify you to create atrocities and from what I understand, JP is trying to lighten that.
