Why did people hate it, because it has minority and female characters?
No because its a pisspoor excuse for including diversity without actually promoting it. World War 2 included more than 30 countries, yet theres no sign of anyone other than the British and Germans. They couldve showcased badass women like those in the Soviet front, or included Japanese and Chinese troops, they couldve had Indians fighting for the allies in Africa, or the Maori as well. Thats diversity. Thats showing sides of the war that are rarely exposed by videogames. Its so easy to show that the war wasnt just fought by white men.
The issue is that instead of that, they created nonsensical characters that couldve never existed, feature stories that are blatantly against the timeline of the war, and include the least amount of factions in any of the most recent Battlefield games.
But yeah, people are mad because of the Asian women fighing for Germany.
Battlefield 1 did a much better example for promoting diversity in a way that doesnt completely contradict history.
Now we have devs saying that people need to grow up and read a book. Thank you for educating me on the incredibly accepting and open minded Nazis, DICE.

It wasn't that it was a woman, it was that it just looked goofy and stupid as hell.
There are ways to promote diversity and there are ways to look like you're pandering.
And it didn't help when their fans called them out, they didn't pull a "well, we're trying for a more fantastical type of WWII" or "video games have a history of bending history like this."
no, they went "You're a dumb bigot please don't buy our game."
Honestly, this game needed to bomb after that shit.
