The idea of getting credit for social reliability might be a good thing.


That, in itself is fine. The problem is punishing people for 'bad' behavior creates an Orwellian nightmare.


I suppose the threat of this social credit system is that you effectively are being punished if those rewarded get to, for instance, have a stab at all the good jobs before you can.


Maybe, but we already do things like hire people and promote them based on their social skills and attitude, so how is that any different?


Well it could be worse if the system isn't finely calibrated to take into account preventing hindering anyone's social/financial mobility. It seems that the system has a greater potential to disadvantage and advantage people because it has more dominion over people's money than the system in place now. It's more explicit if someone's a failure so they will have less of a chance to climb the ladder of employment.
