It's just Manafort tried to play Mueller and he's not even half as smart as he thinks he is. So Mueller figures out real quick Manafort is lying and lets him feed bad information to Trump, information which Trump uses to probably lie his ass off to Mueller, because he thinks he's smart too. Now that Trump has ensnared himself, Mueller gets to nail Manafort to the wall again and has a bunch more material to work with.
