What's the purpose of the disc, then. Why not just sell you a plastic card with a QR code? The disc has no function if it contains no license information.

This disc would have the game I just purchased. Some people have very slow internet, or data caps. If I were one of those people and I went out and bought a game only for them to tell me to download the entire thing instead, I'd be super pissed. Like those that complain about day one patches that go into the double digits in gigabytes.

I mean you should be super pissed because that's more or less where that DRM road was going to end anyway. Lots of people were super pissed and which is why they removed it.

Keep in mind that as the old Xbox one was essentially an always online system, and being online forbids you from playing an older version of a game unless you disconnect first, which you cannot do, you can and should expect that basically every game you install will want to download an enormous patch as soon as you boot it up.
