He was definitely in the wrong for what he did and should do time, probably more than what he is getting due to the humiliation pics and rape, but it hasn't been proven that he intended to indirectly take the victim's life with the drugs. Despite his negligence afterward(Probably out of fear of having to deal with the police), she voluntarily decided to take the drugs and ended up OD'ing, which is the risk that comes with the territory, so she is at fault for that. I can really empathise with the upset mother, but it seems she only wants to get back at the guy because of her daughter's foolishness, which ended up being a major part of what killed her.
