It means you have to answer the questions as truthfully and objectively as possible, which is understandably difficult for less introspective people. They end up getting a wrong letter or two, read the description, it obviously sounds nothing like them, and they go "this is bullshit! Pseudoscience! No better than horoscopes1!!11!!!!1!"

I don't see how you can understand the literary usefulness of it for creating realistic characters but can't extrapolate that to real people.
because a fictional character's personality is entirely made up and purposefully arbitrated. and i only use it as a jumping off point to then go and fully flesh out the personality with other means.
Just take the damn test.
It's only "pseudoscience" in the sense that it doesn't meet some of the arbitrary qualifiers to make it official science. Basically it reaches a real conclusion but gets there in a maverick way.
