SE has gone all-in on the current "games as a service" model and trend, so they must find ways to make ALL of the money, and convince you, the consumer, that you want to spend so much money this way. SE thinks that there's enough content up to ~~docking the ship at Junon~~ to make up one game, or at least charge one game's pricetag for that much of a larger game. As stupid and greedy as it seems, I have no doubt that a lot of people will buy it. Just like how, after the term "whale" was coined to describe people who spend copious amounts of money on cash shops, SE made a whale mount, cash shop only, for FFXIV. I'll let you guess how many FFXIV players bought this mount.
