It's what happens when you deprive your soul of it's innate longing for Him. Thus, you turn to something convenient like "science" to worship, without any of the inconvenient commitment, and you still get to manufacture a faux sense of superiority to others for being all intellectual and "scientific." Most, if not all of you will completely close your minds to the accuracy of my statements. It's what us sinful people do: we like to think we're never wrong.
