Why would you need to trade your disk in? Why not just allow you to install it to the HDD, keep the disk, and map the serial # on the disk to your Xbox live account? They could keep it in a database so if anyone tried to install the game, and dump it for store credit at Gamestop, it would get flagged.

How, pray tell, do you expect one to install a game to the HDD from a disc without a disc drive? What serial number after you even talking about, too?

The most consumer friendly option would involve using your old system to read the discs. So what would happen is you'd download an app to your old system, put the disc in, and then that game gets added to your account. Then you go out, buy your new system, and all the games are ready as soon as you log in.

But why do that when Microsoft can get a shit ton of free product to sell back to the used game market? Seriously, fuck turning in your old discs.

If it was that easy why don't consoles do this regardless?
