Digital download has already been a common thing for a very long time, and discs haven't gone anywhere. Yet. Inevitably they will be relegated to the niche by the market, since making discs takes time and money and digital is getting more convenient by the second. Heck, maybe now's the time. A market shift isn't the same that consumers "giving up choice", by the way. It's the same as the ongoing replacement of old TVs.
