The market is saturated with people seeking such work, and employers can and will reject anyone for even the most trivial of reasons. Getting a degree won't help. You'll overqualify yourself out of even more jobs, and anything in your field will be full of lifers, or outsourced to somewhere you wouldn't even visit with an armed entourage in most cases.
