He's waited too long that his fans have already written better endings to his work and now he can't out write them so he's stuck.

yeah honestly i'm pretty sure there's got to be a passable Winds of Winter and Dream of Spring on fanfiction.net at this point
GRRM's work existed better when there were less eyes on it tbh. It's essentially suffering from the Westworld effect where so many people can get together and discuss even the smallest details and pull foreshadowing from it.
ASoIaF was pretty much always like that. R+L=J has been a thing since the first book.
It has but even smaller theories have been exploded to the extreme. ---
