Actually in the original stories Superman wasn't nearly as powerful as he is today. He couldn't even fly in the original stories. He could just "leap tall buildings in a single bound." The original catchphrase was "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap buildings in a single bound." It was later writers that kept giving Superman more and more powers until he eventually became a deus ex machina. By the 1970s he could move entire planets, but in the original 1940s stories he was barely more powerful than a locomotive (i.e. a train). ... Copied to Clipboard! |
