| Topic | Controversial opinion time. Mass Effect 1 is a bad game. |
| DiScOrD tHe LuNaTiC 10/29/18 10:54:32 AM #38: | ME1 definitely plays more like a 'classic' BW game, and I actually didn't mind a lot of the changes they made in ME2. Except for... thermal clips. BW claimed they were responding to 'fan concerns' with the switch from mods in ME1 to thermal clips in ME2, WHAT IDIOTS WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING UNLIMITED AMMO . Literally the ONLY thing that thermal clips did was take the game back to the decades-old cliche of 'Everyone in the game except YOU will always have infinite ammo'. So for ME2, BW took out the weapon customization and put in 'thermal clips' that supposedly upgrade the guns. Only problem is what they really do: they turn the weapon system into the old and tired "Your party and your enemies will always have infinite ammo but you have to conserve your shots or run out" BS that's been in every FPS since Wolfenstein 3-D. In all the FPS and 3PS games ever made, the player character is the ONLY character that has to adhere to this mechanic. It was overdone by the late 90's, and it's just laziness now. Now, ironically enough, they didn't have to put in thermal clips. All they had to do was what they already did: remove weapon customization. If you can't customize a weapon, then of course you can't affect its overheat rate. I mean, they had different weapons with different stats, so bothering with thermal clips was pretty much a pointless backup. --- "They come in the night to smell your daughter's periods so that they can sparkle in the day." -- Kradek ...
