I'll move on but won't accept it's cheap, it's standard, at least when I was growing up around the people I know. Just like you had the change from 15 to 20% base line in restaurants for waiters/waitress in many instances that's probably what is going on here, but I refuse to follow the crowd this time, they can think whatever they want.
Take the extra 5% your waiters have you convinced is the new baseline and start tipping your delivery drivers like a decent human being. Waiters ain't ever gonna literally go in the red because of your tip their. Delivery drivers can. They expend money to deliver food. Waiters don't have to pay for something to get you yours.
But I pay the delivery fee, that should cover gas and wear and tare on the car, unless I am missing something.
I would have no problem taking 5% from waiters/waitress and giving it to drivers as a general principle, but exactly how I would go about dealing with that I am not sure.
Pay 15% for a typical waiter. 20% for a great waiter above and beyond. Pay 10% for a shitty waiter. Pay zero for a god wrecking terrible waiter who ruined your meal.
I mean, waiters should be tipped on how their service was. Delivery drivers literally just deliver your food. They should be basically tipped the same every time unless again conditions out are bad or they made your food get to you cold. ---
