Correct, although I think we still need to advance the science better of accurately determining whether someone has the biological markers of a "real" trans person as opposed to relying on therapy and opinion to make the call, given that it's a life-altering process. We also need better therapy solutions for both pre and post transition individuals because the suicide rate is still way, WAY too high and you can't write that off as "people are mean" because it's still double that of the gay community at the height of the AIDS epidemic. The illusion that "if I change my appearance, the source of all my unhappiness will go away" needs to be broken prior to transition so people don't regret their decisions, much in the way that obese people going through gastric bypass remain depressed once they realize that losing weight doesn't suddenly make them popular or happy.

this might be the most reasonable post on this topic I've ever seen you make =)

two clarifications I'd like to make on it:

those who transition early are much more in line with the general pop in regards to depression.

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/137/3/e20153223

it's a small sample, but I have seen nothing to suggest it isn't true.

and

trans people aren't just changing appearance. we also change chemically (HRT). don't downplay it, or it's effect on our health.

So basically you're saying that the ealiest they transition the better?

This makes sense... to a point. IMO you have to be at least 21, or maybe 18. If you're in theory not mature enough to buy a beer or get a tattoo, why can you chop the pecker off?
