Matter fact is, the population at large is not really gonna care about whether or not gay/lesbians can get married. Yeah, the LGBT population when you include bisexuals or bicurious folks is fairly significant (especially when looking at women that experiment), but when you get down to actual marriage-thinking gays/lesbians, those numbers drop pretty dramatically. You might be talking about 5% of the adult population at most at that point, if not less.
