I didn't say that the parent was trying to educate their child not to be violent. I was saying that it was like trying to turn a conflict between a knight and a dragon into a commentary on xenophobia.

To be fair, dragons in most ancient fables are actually sentient (or even human in some cases) and people routinely kill them just for being dragons/magic/because they have treasure.

If anything, it reflects that times have changed, and a parent explaining that to children seems perfectly reasonable to me.

So it's okay for a parent to willfully ignore the context of a story to deliver a hamfisted lesson, but it's not okay to be annoyed with someone ignoring context to make a statement?

I'm not saying she's a failure of a parent or anything, but it is something to roll your eyes at if you're familiar with the story in question.
