So my general feelings are this game is AC in name only (I will admit I skipped Origins) and should be called The Witcher Odyssey or something.

The stealth elements are downplayed quite a bit compared to combat, which is very weird for an AC game. By making everything stat based, fights seem to drag on way too long compared to older games (I really miss chaining attacks) and it's kinda lame to wail on an opponent as numbers appear on the screen. The counter system is kinda wonky and it feels really hard to fight off multiple enemies compared to older games in the series. I feel like combat peaked in AC3 and every game since hasn't been as fun. But in general this whole stat-based RPG approach is kinda not my thing for AC. I loved going back to play the Ezio Trilogy and didn't get a single upgrade besides the required ones for storyline quests.

The dialogue trees seem pointless. So much pointless dialogue, I miss getting exposition as you walk to your next objective instead of watching BioWare style cutscenes.

Parkour is downplayed quite a bit, too. The lack of large architecture to climb is disappointing but I guess it's fitting to the setting. Which is why I picked this up, I love the Peloponnesian War.

The eagle companion is pretty fun (I believe Origins introduced this) but I think Eagle Vision is better.

Characters so far are endearing if a bit underwhelming. It's interesting we're getting a post-tragedy start instead of other games where we play as the main character before their world shaping tragedy happens. But classic "parent(s) die" seems like a kinda lame storyline to revisit.

But all that being said, I've enjoyed the game so far. It's just not really an AC game anymore, just another open world game like Witcher, Breath of the Wild, etc. Which is funny since they started a lot of the nonsense seen in open world games but I feel like the parkour elements and "hide in plain sight" style stealth set it apart.
